(DBT) Dialectical Behavior Therapy
When DBT is the right fit, I lean into its four skill areas: distress tolerance, mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation.
Skills That Actually Work
Some of these skills sound a little strange at first, and I’ll be honest about that with you. I like to point out how odd a skill can sound at the same time we talk about how genuinely effective it is. My personal favorite is Radical Acceptance, which is exactly what it sounds like: learning to accept reality as it is. It stops the fight with things you can’t change, so your energy goes toward things you can.
However Much DBT You Need
Depending on what’s most helpful, I can weave DBT skills into our broader work together, or we can take a more targeted, structured approach that focuses specifically on building DBT skills. We’ll figure out together which fits best for you.
I offer DBT in person in Barre, Vermont, and via telehealth across Vermont and Maryland.
